At this stage, I first ink the foreground and then pencil
in the background. Those of you who are used to
painting may find this method slightly backward, but it
makes sense if you think about it. The background
can't be inked before the foreground, so it makes more
sense to get ink on the foreground first so that you don't
muddy the lines while drawing the background. Of
course, I do still need to have the entire panel planned out
in advance.
As you can see, I use a lot of perspective lines when
drawing my backgrounds. It's a little tedious, but
worth it for the accuracy it provides.
