A Book of Shadows, sometimes called a Grimoire, is where a
witch records all of their useful information. One might
record potion and brew formulas, sabbat rituals, magickal
symbols, and anything else they may need to reference related
to their Craft. These books are lifelong works,
sometimes a compilation of many witches' efforts passed down
from generation to generation. In some witchcraft
traditions, a Book of Shadows and a Grimoire are two separate
things. In these
traditions, the Grimoire is the book of spells and general
information and may be shared between other witches, while the
Book of Shadows is a very private journal of magickal
experiences and other personal things. But most
modern-day witches use only one Book of Shadows or Grimoire,
and the terms mean much the same thing.
Traditionally, a Book of Shadows was handwritten, and if
illustrated at all included hand-drawn pictures.
However, in today's age much of the information a witch may
gather comes from books or from the internet. This does
not reduce the effectiveness of the book. Quite the
contrary, as it allows the witch to build the usefulness of
their Book of Shadows even faster.
Our Books of Shadows are made to accommodate whatever practice
you wish to use, be it handwritten information or printed from
the computer. They measure 13 inches by 13 inches, and
are made from solid wood with brass hinges and posts.
The posts are expandable in order to add as much information
as you'd like! The book will fit regular three-hole
notebook paper, parchment paper, computer paper, 12x12
scrapbook pages, or any other paper that you wish to
add.
