WEBCOMIC
LINKS |
|
One of the benefits, and drawbacks, of being a webcomic creator
is that you become very familiar with the many other webcomics
out there. Some of them even influenced the creation of
this comic in some way. Others are just so good that they
must be read, consuming mass quantities of time that you may or
may not have. So, for those of you who are not already
hopelessly addicted to webcomics, following any of the links
below could be very hazardous to your productivity. You
have been warned.
Below you will find links to my favorite comics, or comics in
the same genre as my own. There will also be a brief
explanation of each comic and a warning if there is naughty
language or adult themes. Enjoy! |

Pagan
Comics |
|

In
this whole world, there is exactly one other Pagan-themed,
active webcomic... and this is it. Oh My Gods! Centers
around the lives of a group of Pagan friends from various
paths. It tends to update in bursts rather than regular
increments, so if it hasn't updated in a while don't worry,
when it does you will have many comics to read. Some
adult themes.

Occasionally in large bursts |

***My
very favorite comic***
Girl
Genius is an ongoing "gaslamp fantasy" story
by Phil and Kaja Foglio. It started out in 2000 as a
periodical comic book, which is collected into three
(and counting) larger volumes. Girl Genius follows the
career of Agatha Heterodyne—a hapless student at
Transylvania Polygnostic University who discovers that
she has more going for her than she thought.
RATING:
Please be aware that Girl Genius is recommended for an
audience of teens and up. Why? Well, let's see... we
have lots of running around in Victorian underwear,
occasional innuendo, a certain amount of violence and
the occasional "damn!"

This
is the comic that inspired me to create my own webcomic.
Creator Aaron Williams is a comedy genius who is also,
incidentally, a really nice guy. Nodwick centers
around a D&D party of adventurers as they go about
their fantasy lives, plundering dungeons, defeating
hordes of orcs, and getting poor Nodwick killed in
almost every instance. Thank goodness for resurrection
and duct tape! This comic would be enjoyable to
anyone who has ever played D&D or even a RPG video
game. Completely non-offensive and kid friendly.

The
Perry Bible Fellowship
One
of the best webcomics out there, if one of the
strangest. Don't let the name fool you, it has
nothing to do with the Bible. Author Nicholas
Gurewitch creates the comics in a variety of styles,
treating his readers to what usually amounts to a
different style of art each update. The comics
tend to be short, imaginative, and extremely
effective. They can require a certain amount of
thought, or they can be obvious. They can be deep
or they can be immature. It's really a mixed bag
with this comic. But one thing you can say for
certain is, all of the comics Gurewitch produces are
excellent. Occasional adult themes and cartoon
nudity., may not be suitable for children (they wouldn't
get it anyway).
Updates:
Lately, if it updates at all it's very rare. |

Saturday
Morning Breakfast Cereal
Another funny comic by a very busy
cartoonist, Zach Weiner (is that his real name, I
wonder). This comic is usually one panel and right to
the point, and almost always fall-down hilarious! The
art is simple, but effective. And it has to be simple,
because this comic updates daily! That's right, every
day. The comic often contains adult situations or
subject matter or violence, and may not be suitable for
children.
Updates: Every
day....! |

While even the author
of this comic realizes that
ninjas are overplayed in webcomics, this one is also a
doctor. That makes all the difference. One
of the more hilarious comics I have ever read, it has
humor much like The Family Guy, American Dad, etc., but
with a style all its own. Really worth checking
out, if you like funny stuff. If you don't... well
then, this comic is not for you. Oh, and you're
lame. May not be suitable for kids, but I doubt
they'd be very interested anyway.

A
Dungeons and Dragons based comic with a twist.
Rather than following the journey of an adventuring
party, this comic focuses on the most victimized
monsters in the whole monster manual, the goblins!
This comic begins funny, but has taken a turn for the
more dramatic over time, so it has something for
everyone. The creator of this comic, Thunt, has an
amazing knack for endearing characters. Probably
not good for kids, but then again the type of violence
depicted is probably nothing they don't see in movies
and on TV.

No schedule, and don't hold your breath. But it's
worth the wait! :) |

While
I generally don't take to comics that invlove
anthropomorphic animals, Code Name: Hunter would be the
big exception. It's one of the few anthro comics
that actually matches the style perfectly and is
incredibly well done, both in art and writing.
It's a contemporary fantasy story that will leave you
reeling with the twists and turns! A must
read. Kid friendly!
