Q
- Why are all of these comics about Wicca and Pagan
stuff? I don't understand.
|
A
- This comic is what is known as a "niche
comic," written specifically for a certain group of
people. In this case, the niche is the Pagan
community. While I do make an effort to keep the
comic understandable to the general population, and I hope
everyone can enjoy it, it is really intended for the Pagan
community only.
|
|
Q
- So then... what are Wicca and Paganism anyway?
|
A
- I wrote an article a while back that explains the whole
thing: Click
here!
|
|
Q
- What is this comic's update schedule?
|
A
- Every Monday!
|
|
Q
- How come some of the comics have "Random
Silliness" at the bottom of the page?
|
A
- "Random Silliness" comics accompany many of
the regular comics. These are one panel comics that
may or may not have anything to do with Wicca, Paganism,
or the actual comic (usually not). They take panels
from the normal weekly update and change the dialog or
other elements. This is just a way for me to be
silly, as I often am.
|
|
Q
- How come the older comics look like crap?
|
A
- When I began this comic, I had no idea how to make a
comic. I hadn't drawn anything in 10 years, and I
had never tried to color something on the computer.
The quality of my comic today was a struggle to achieve,
and the earlier comics represent the best of my efforts
when I began, with the knowledge I had. You can
continue to expect the art to change and improve as I
learn in the future.
|
|
Q
- Is there an ongoing plot in your comic?
|
A
- No. This is what you call a
"gag-a-day" comic, meaning that there is no plot
generally, and each comic has a punch line.
Gag-a-day comic strips are designed so that they can be
viewed independently of any other comic strip, and be
understood and hopefully also funny. Kind of like
Garfield, Peanuts, or most other newspaper comics.
While there will occasionally be story arcs within the
comic, these are few and far between, and each strip still
contains a punch line and can be enjoyed separately from
the rest.
|
|
Q
- Most gag-a-day strips keep their art simple so that they
can update more often. Why don't you do that?
|
A
- It is true that simpler art would benefit this
comic. I could then update far more often.
Everyone knows that quantity is more important than
quality in this type of comic strip. However, there
are several reasons why I have chosen to go with a more
difficult, complex, and realistic art style.
Firstly, that is the type of art I enjoy looking at.
While I certainly have nothing against simpler, more
cartoonish art, I have always personally enjoyed more
realistic art, even in comics.
Secondly,
this comic is about real-life stuff. It's what some
people refer to as a "slice-of-life comic,"
meaning that it deals with the real world, not a fantasy
world. I thought that more cartoonish art would
convey the message that the subject matter is somehow frivolous,
play-pretend. The pagan community already suffers
from enough of that sort of thing without me adding to
it. Realistic art contributes to the overall realism
of the subject matter. After all, I am not just
trying to be funny, I am also trying to make a point.
Finally,
The Many Moons of Astra is a way for me to practice my
artistic skills for future projects. This comic
doesn't represent the end of my ambitions as a comic
creator. Quite the contrary. I would like to
create a graphic novel when my skill level is high enough,
and I would also like to get into book illustration.
I do not yet have the skill for either of these
projects. As the art improves on this comic, I am
moving ever closer to being able to expand my utility as
an artist.

|
Q
- Are you available for privately commissioned art?
|
A
- Sure, why not. Aren't all artists? Just
email
me with
the details, and I will consider it.
|
|
Q
- Do you offer Astra merchadise?
|
A
- Some day soon. It's just a matter of actually
designing things and then getting them up for sale.
Sounds easy, doesn't it? Well it isn't!

|
Q
- I want to feature your comic in my publication or
newspaper. Is that possible?
|
A
- At this time, unless your publication is also planning
to pay me, I will not be able to create unique comics for
you. One comic a week is all the free comic I have
time to do. If you are planning to pay me for it,
then we'll discuss it. If you want to print comics I
have already done, then I will most likely be willing to
consider it. Just let me know and
we can work out the details. Contact
me here.
|
|
Q
- I would like to feature your characters in my own
comic. Is that cool with you?
|
A
- Probably. But please contact
me first, so that I
can check out your comic and make sure you aren't going to
do anything weird with them. There's a lot of sickos
on the internet.
|
|
Q
- How about my MySpace page or blog? Can I put one
of your comics up there?
|
A
- Again, probably. Just contact
me and let me know,
so that I can look at your site first.
